Taste Test Thursday
TLDR: Matty Matheson's new spot Bar Clams just opened at 802 Dundas West. It's a Maritime-themed diner with high-end prices. The early reviews are... not great.
The Spot:
Replaced Fonda Balam (Matheson's former Mexican restaurant)
East Coast diner vibes with chrome and mirrors
Run by Matheson (you know him from The Bear and his other Toronto spots)
The Menu:
Raw bar: Oysters, clams
Maritime classics: Donairs, lobster rolls, fish & chips
Comfort food: Hot turkey sandwiches, grilled cheese
Drinks: Cocktails, Canadian whiskey, beer

The Damage:
Fish & chips: $35
Donair: $20
Jiggs dinner (traditional Newfoundland meal): $36
Cocktails: $19-25
The Reality Check: Reviews are calling out the high prices for basic diner food. We checked multiple sources and the consensus is: good service, decent food, but way overpriced for what you get. Think paying steakhouse prices for casual East Coast comfort food.
Worth It? Save your money unless you're expense accounting or really want to flex on Instagram. For authentic Maritime food at better prices, hit up College Falafel or Cosmic Donair on College St for donairs instead.
Location: 802 Dundas St W
Hours: Open Tues-Sun for lunch and dinner
